TEDYAPPS began with a simple vision: to make learning Amharic easier, more enjoyable, and accessible to families everywhere.
At the heart of TEDYAPPS is an innovative learning poster paired with a companion app, creating a poster that speaks. The poster keeps the Amharic letters clearly visible on the wall, while the app brings each one to life with authentic pronunciation from a native speaker. Together, they transform everyday practice into an interactive learning experience that even a four-year-old can enjoy.
The app goes beyond the alphabet. Learners can explore commonly used words, the days of the week, the months of the year, and Geʽez numbers, trace every letter with a finger, and practice building their own words, all in one engaging place.
Along the way, we developed the TEDYAPPS™ Pronunciation System: an intuitive set of spellings that closely approximates Amharic sounds. It helps learners, including those with no background in linguistics, read an Amharic sound spelling aloud and be understood on the first try.
